Art Consultants provide an important service for artists by connecting them to opportunities with corporations, interior designers and high-end collectors. Remember that most art consultants do not represent artists per se, but they often keep files of artists and artwork that they can present to their clients when working on a project. Expect to give an art consultant a discount on work they sell for you ranging from 20 to 50 percent. Be sure to review the art on each Web site to make sure your work is compatible. Check with each consultant firm regarding submission policies before sending any portfolios, postcards or other promotional material.

TIP: Be wary of any online vanity gallery or art consultant firm that charges you a fee to list your work on its Web site. If, after some research, you do think an opportunity like this is valid, be sure to at least speak with other artists exhibiting on the site to see what types of sales results they have experienced.
